The Most Comfortable Basketball Shoes Reviews

Adidas D Rose 8 – 2018 Top Comfortable Basketball Shoes

most comfortable basketball shoes 2018

Cushion: (5.0 / 5)
Traction: (3.5 / 5)
Support: (4.8 / 5)
Fit: (4.5 / 5)

The new top of our list here is the Adidas D Rose 8 shoes. It’s actually an incredible shoe and the D Rose lineup has made it several lists here and here in our review. So it’s no surprise it also shows up on the most comfortable list. It’s got all the pieces to make a solid and stable shoe for average and even professional basketball players.

Why is this shoe so comfy?

What has marked the D Rose lineup as a solid performer is the full length Boost slab of foam within the shoe. Boost has revolutionized the Adidas brand and truly revived the brand from the brink of destruction. It’s just an excellent balance of springy performance and soft plush feeling to protect knees.

And the full length Boost in these D Rose 8s truly gives a great court feel but still gives plenty of stability for your feet. That’s an incredible balance and the Boost system nails it perfectly! Combine that with the cage approach around your midsole and you now have a stable yet fluid cushion to keep you entertained all game long.

It performs perfectly even in the toughest courts. And the fit is relatively solid. It runs slightly big so it works beautifully for wide foot players, but it works just fine for everyone else too. Add those 2 aspects together and you’ve got a super comfortable shoe.

Jordan Melo M11 [OUTDATED]

most comfortable basketball shoes

Cushion: (5.0 / 5)
Traction: (4.5 / 5)
Support: (4.5 / 5)
Fit: (4.8 / 5)

Topping off our list is a surprise to a lot of people. The Jordan Melo M11 is a very strong shoe in terms of comfort. I guess you can say that Melo really values cushion and comfort in his shoes. Not surprisingly, but this Melo shoe also topped our list for the best shoes for a guard here.

Why Is This Shoe So Comfy?

Well the Jordan brand takes high pride in creating innovative cushion technology. They took the Zoom cushion technology from Nike and pumped it with steroids! It’s now called Unlocked Zoom in the Jordan shoes and it is arguably the best cushion technology on the market. This cushion can’t be complimented enough and you will only understand when you put them on.

But it’s not just a fluffy marshmallow here. This shoe has fantastic response time so you can cut and slice every direction in an instant. They have great traction to make sure you never slip too.

The fit and support are other strong areas of the Melo shoes. The lacing lockdown is very strong in this one and they fit true to size. You shouldn’t have any concerns with this shoe on the court. It is the lightest Melo shoe to date, but understand it’s not the lightest shoe available. If you like minimal shoes that you can barely feel, these might not be for you. If you want the most comfortable ride on the court or concrete, these are your winner.

Under Armour Anatomix Spawn 2 – (Nearly outdated and limited availability currently)

most comfortable basketball shoes

Cushion: (5.0 / 5)
Traction: (4.5 / 5)
Support: (4.5 / 5)
Fit: (4.8 / 5)

The shoe with arguably the coolest name. It is a little older so may be more difficult to find. However, if you can find it, you’ll definitely understand why we believe it is one of the most comfortable shoes on the list.

Why Is This Shoe So Comfy?

Well it’s pretty simple: Under Armour Micro G. That is basically all that needs to be said about this shoe because it’s arguably either #1 or #2 on the “best cushion list” for all shoes. Micro G is a revolution in comfort and those who have tried it absolutely know the feeling. However, if it’s not implemented in a shoe properly, it can feel too mushy and not responsive. Yes Under Armour has failed with a few shoes on Micro G, but not these Spawn 2s.

The Spawn shoes utilize the perfect combination of Micro G and support. These shoes provide arguably the best cushion-to-responsiveness ratio on the market (even though they’re a little old).

The other areas like support and fit are ideal also. The Spawn 2s provide solid support with a fairly standard TPU cage around the midsole to help prevent rolling. The shoes feel like they are a second skin because of the technology. The technology is supposed to disperse heat evenly to prevent hot spots.

If you’re wondering, other areas like traction are also top notch. Nothing revolutionary, but excellent in performance.

If you can find a pair in your size, we highly recommend the Spawn 2s for comfort.

Adidas Dame 4 Basketball Shoes With Cushion

best basketball shoes for comfort 2018

Cushion: (4.8 / 5)
Traction: (4.8 / 5)
Support: (4.5 / 5)
Fit: (4.5 / 5)

Adidas and the partnership with Damian Lillard has been an absolute win! They’ve come out with 4 signature shoes now (obviously) and all of them have been high quality at a reasonable price. These Dame 4s are no different!

With an exciting Adidas Bounce cushion throughout the bottom, it gives a unique blend between court feel and plush cushion. The forefoot is designed to be lower to the ground to give you more “responsive” court feel. You’ll think you’re faster and moving quicker because it is low. And the heel has more bouncy cushion for the impact protection and comfort. It’s a great blend and one we definitely think you’ll enjoy.

You combine that cushion with the solid traction pattern here (apparently designed like the “passage of time”) which works extremely well. It’s a softer rubber so it likely won’t do well as an outdoor shoe, but we already created that list for you here.

Even as a low top shoe, the support and stability from these Dame shoes is fantastic. They’ve got a nice heel counter and low riding base that locks your foot in completely. No slippage coming here at all. Add the excellent lacing system and your foot is completely strapped in for the ride of a lifetime!

Adidas D Lillard 2  –  (Outdated See Dame 4 Above)

most comfortable basketball shoes

Cushion: (4.8 / 5)
Traction: (4.5 / 5)
Support: (4.5 / 5)
Fit: (4.8 / 5)

The next shoe on our list is a very common shoe here on Dish 2 Swish. You can find it also on our Shoes For Guards List. The Lillard 2 shoe is one of those “nearly-perfect-for-everything” kind of shoe. And when it comes to comfort, it’s one of the best. This is also our top choice for point guards!

Why Is This Shoe So Comfy?

Adidas finally figured out how to create good cushion and they named it Bounce. It’s definitely the appropriate name given how soft and yet responsive the cushion feels on your foot. Bounce is truly a revolution for Adidas given how poorty their older shoes performed in the comfort section. The Lillard shoes are light weight, strong with support and make you feel like running on clouds.

Plus they are one of the cheapest shoes on the market!

Support and fit are great with these shoes. They fit nearly perfectly for normal feet (wide footers should try them on). The support is strong enough to get the job done, but if you have weak ankles, you might want to consider a brace.

Traction is strong with this shoe on cleaner courts. The pattern is a little too tight and flimsy for outdoor courts so beware. Otherwise, you will love the Lillard shoe, especially if you play the point!

Adidas D Rose 6  (Outdated but see D Rose 8 above)

most comfortable basketball shoes

Cushion: (4.8 / 5)
Traction: (4.8 / 5)
Support: (4.5 / 5)
Fit: (4.5 / 5)

The other Adidas shoe that’s making waves in the shoe world is the D Rose 6. With the Lillard 2 shoes ranking so well, it should seem obvious that the Rose shoes would rank high as well. They use slightly different technology, but still perform very well.

Why Is This Shoe So Comfy?

Adidas created a slightly different technology for Rose and the called it BOOST. BOOST was the original version of Bounce and it single-handedly resurrected the Adidas brand that was severaly lacking a strong player in basketball shoes. Honestly, before the Rose 6 and Lillard 2 shoes came out, many people had written Adidas off and assumed they were near the end of the basketball shoe market.

But that all changed with BOOST.

BOOST is a specially created foam that sports thousands of forumlated pellets called “energy capsules.” This technology has absolutely changed the game in terms of cushion, even to the point of Kanye West spouting how comfy they are.

What also helps the Rose 6 shoe is the great is the fit and support. Although they aren’t quite as good as the Lillard shoe, the support is still strong. The semi-drawback on the support comes with the adjustable ankle band. If you wear ankle braces, this aspect will do wonders for you. If you don’t wear braces, you’ll probably hate this.

Air Jordan XXXII 32s

most comfortable basketball shoes 2018

Cushion: (4.5 / 5)
Traction: (4.5 / 5)
Support: (4.5 / 5)
Fit: (4.5 / 5)

Overall, the Jordan brand has been up and down the past few years. Inconsistent is clearly what I’d describe it as. But the Air Jordan 32s finally take a step in the right direction. With a solid combination of everything from cushion to traction to fit, these shoes finally get Jordan back on my feet.

The cushion here is segmented Zoom Air in the forefoot and heel. This is a unique design that hasn’t been seen in Jordans’ for several years.  And this time, it was done well. The forefoot portion has an Unlocked Zoom which gives bounce but also stability. The heel portion is bottom loaded to help balance the shoe and really provide impact protection. It’s a solid set up that you’ll enjoy.

Thankfully, the other aspects of the shoe are solid also. Some shoes sacrifice areas like traction or fit to get good cushion, but these Jordan 32s do not. The traction is actually quite good here with a herringbone pattern that performs much better than the last several Jordan shoes.

And the fit and support are also solid. You will be locked in quite well as these shoes as they run true to size. With the Flyknit design, they’ll stretch and help mold to your foot after a few runs.

Under Armour Curry 2

most comfortable basketball shoes

Cushion: (4.5 / 5)
Traction: (4.8 / 5)
Support: (4.8 / 5)
Fit: (4.5 / 5)

One of the hottest shoes on the market is the Curry 2. Not surprising given his 2 year run of crazy shooting and stats. Under Armour worked hard to get Steph a very comfortable basketball shoe and his Curry 2’s are the result of the hard work.

Why Is This Shoe So Comfy?

Under Armour created their own cushion technology called Micro G which really impressed reviewers everywhere. They’re next invention of cushion is called Charged Foam. It is slightly different than Micro G in that is provides more responsiveness and slightly less “plushy” feeling. Some people love it and some don’t. Charged is good, but not as good as Micro G used to be for comfort.

That’s why the the Curry 2 is closer to the bottom of the list as opposed to another the Spawn shoe. If we’re comparing performance…. the Curry 2 would beat the Spawn…. but this is about comfort and Charged is just a bit lacking.

Are the Curry’s still comfy? Absolutely. Do they also perform well in other areas like traction and support? You bet. Would we recommend them for guards who move fast and cut hard? Absolutely.

The Curry 2’s are a strong option in comfort. Are they the best on our list? Not for comfort. But still a great option no matter what.

Nike LeBron 15s

good comfy basketball shoes 2018

Cushion: (4.3 / 5)
Traction: (4.5 / 5)
Support: (4.5 / 5)
Fit: (4.5 / 5)

The most well rounded shoe on othe market today is the LeBron 15s. No question about it. It isn’t necessarily the best in any specific category, but it’s super great in all of them.

Why Is This Shoe So Comfy?

Nike and LeBron went in a unique direction with this year’s model of the LeBron shoes. Now we’re using a triangular pattern on the bottom with a softer rubber to get the grip you need. For the most part, it’s fantastic! Though it does seem to have some limitations on the lateral movements. So be aware that sliding defense will feel different than cutting to the rim.

The cushion however, is exceptional! It’s got bouncy Max Air Zoom throughout the shoe and definitely lets you feel it. So if you LOVE feeling the cushion, these are ideal for you (although on the more expensive side). It will give you the feeling of “floating” on air which is incredible. But be aware that it’s truly designed for the linear aspect like we mentioned above. It’s got some stability issues moving laterally.

Because of the stability issues, these shoes have dipped in our rankings a bit. We value your safety on the court (naturally) so it wouldn’t be in anyone’s best interest to turn your ankles. Even if the cushion was fantastic.

The only real problem with these shoes (which is why they’re so low here) is the price and stability. They are by far the most expensive shoes on the list. You definitely get solid quality, but it’s your choice if the cost is worth it.

What Is Important In Comfortable Shoes

Purpose:

The purpose of the shoe makes all the difference. If you are looking to have a stylish pair of kicks for every day life, there are tons of options. In fact, many more than this list can handle because walking around is not nearly as tough on the body as playing.

If you’re looking to play in these shoes, this list was created for you. Whether it’s indoor play on a court, or outdoor play on concrete, these shoes are gonna perform.

And performance is the name of the game right? Would you ever buy a shoe that wasn’t going to help you get an edge? Neither would we.

Cushion:

Probably the most important aspect on a shoe when comfort is the biggest concern. Without good cushion, why even have shoes at all? Why not just play barefoot and see how things go.

Cushion not only protects your feet, but your ankles and knees and hips and back all at the same time. Think of how stressful basketball is on your body. Think of all the jumping and cutting and shifting that your body has to do during a game. Now imagine if you had to do all that barefoot.

Think you could still walk after one game?

Cushion provides the barrier to protect us. However, too much of a good thing can be a negative.

Too much cushion can affect performance and even make you more prone to injury. Finding that sweet balance is critical between protection and performance. That’s what we analyzed and why we created this list.

Fit:

The fit is another extremely important aspect for comfortable basketball shoes if are playing in them. Fit means very little in the leisure basketball shoe world, but it’s a huge benefit to us.

Having proper fit is what sets up the cushion to perform well on our feet. How uncomfortable would you be if you had a great shoe but your foot kept sliding inside it because the fit wasn’t right?

Ever played in a pair that was a size too big? Feels ridiculous doesn’t it?

Having proper fit and lace lockdown is crucial to having comfort. But fit and cushion have to work in tandem to deliver the optimal results we’re all looking for. One without the other is worthless.

Support:

What good is a basketball shoe if it offers no support? Although it’s not as important in the comfort of the shoe, it’s still a vital part in any basketball shoe. You want just enough support to feel confident in the shoe, but not too much that you feel restricted in movement. It’s a tough balancing act, but we believe it can be done in the right shoe.

Wrapping It All Up

So this has been our list of the World’s Most Comfortable Basketball Shoes. Obviously, comfort is a matter of opinion. So feel free to let us know if you think our list is spot on or waaaay off. Either way, keep ballin hard and we hope to see you on the court someday!
